The pictures are hard to make out, but there is a kite flying in the background of the lamp post. The other day when we were about to go to the park, I looked outside to see what the weather was like. It has been a bit overcast with some spontaneous storms lately. Luckily the weather looks decent, only a bit windy. As I looked out the back, I saw one of Aidan's friends from down the street out flying a kite with her parents. I thought It would be a great idea to grab ours and join them on the soccer pitch for some kite flying. I grabbed both of our butterfly kites and headed out the door. We spent a good hour out there flying the kites, alternating the butterflies between the two girls. They had such a good time running up and down the pith with the kites. After a while the wind picked up and so I let out the line little by little. The blue butterfly was pretty high up. Lorena was flying the red one with only a few feet of line out. Aidan was getting upset that she didn't have a kite right at that moment so I let her hold to blue one. She held tight for a few minutes but was easily distracted and let go. It took off flying and I took of running. Unfortunately, the kite was faster than me and it flew over the Autostrada and got caught on a power line. It stayed flying for several hours and then it disappeared. Where it went, who knows? I wrote a letter (my first in Italian) to the owner of the orange grove where the kite landed in hopes that maybe he'll find it on his property someday and return it to us. Otherwise, our poor little papillion is lost forever. Here are the pictures from our window of the kite flying from the power line. Aidan was very upset and believes that the butterfly is somewhere out there alone and sad.
